Five Letters
About the daily Five Letters puzzle on DailyClue
There is one hidden five-letter word each day, and it is the same for every player. You have 6 guesses to find it. Every guess must be a real word from our dictionary, and a word that is not accepted does not use up a guess.
Reading the colours
After each guess every letter turns green (right letter, right place), yellow (the letter is in the word, but somewhere else) or grey (not in the word, or you have already found all the copies of it). Repeated letters are scored carefully, so a letter is only marked as many times as it really appears in the answer.
How the daily word works
A new word arrives at midnight India Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30) for everyone, wherever you are. You can play Five Letters once a day; when you finish it stays finished until the next word. There is no account and no sign-up: your progress and statistics are stored only on your own device, so clearing your browser data resets them.
Want to solve it in fewer guesses?
Start with a word made of common, different letters, use your second guess to test letters you have not tried yet, and watch out for families of words that differ by one letter. Our Five Letters tips and strategy guide explains each of these with a worked example. New to DailyClue? Read how to play for all three games.
